I heard an interesting comment the other day, and it applies here. Many evangelicals and other such fellow travelers "use" Jesus. They don't "follow" Jesus.
This is a very persuasive argument for the existence of Q. One bit I am unable to find any information on is the origin of the parable of the sheep and the goats, my favorite New Testament passage. It is not in Q, nor is it in the hypothetical M document.
Ehrman has an interesting take that it is based on an actual teaching of Jesus that somehow made it into Matthew, even though it tends to contradict Matthew's Pauline Christology
