Jesus Said “No Killing.” Evangelicals Said “Hold My AR-15.”
When you think of Jesus, you imagine a man preaching peace, not violence. The kind who told Peter to drop his sword, healed the man Peter attacked, and said, “Love your enemies.” The message was simple: stop fighting and start forgiving. Ask an Evangelical about guns, and you’ll hear more about the Second Amendment than the Sermon on the Mount. They’ll quote Luke 22:36 — where Jesus tells his disciples to “buy a sword” — and pretend that’s divine approval for owning an assault rifle. They skip the part where Jesus scolds Peter for actually using one. It’s almost as if they know what the Bible says but prefer their own version.
Somewhere along the way, the gospel of peace was traded for the gospel of the gun — and hardly anyone in church noticed.
